Crystal Charms and Goddesses for Healing which are you drawn to ?

Emerging as I often do like a sleepy kitten from a long sleep when I have had these long stretches of migraines I feel drawn to sit and create so that is what I am going to do today, catch up on orders that need posting and make some new pieces. I would like to make some new healing charms I think so if anyone has any needs then please let me know, I love doing special pieces. Each crystal and charm has its own story to tell and put together may be just the right combination for you to begin your own healing and transformation. First thing I am going to make this afternoon is a good luck charm for my daughter who has been studying so hard for her A levels.

Aceso was the main Greek Goddess for healing. Indeed her name is said to mean curing. She was known for tackling the healing process, the root cause not just the problem itself, thus can be seen as the root of holistic medicine. We of course have a lot to learn from our ancestors in terms of the way we approach modern healing methods. She shared an altar with Aphrodite and Athena and was the daughter of Epipione and and Asclepius. Aceso also spelt Akeso knew the importance of maintaining good health as well as good hygiene in order to stay fit and well, something that was often neglected when looking to cure a specific disease or illness.

Many of the well known Moon Goddesses such as Aine, Brigid and Isis were known to be powerful healers. Brigid or Brigit was also said to be responsible for fertility and Aine was known for breathing life force into being. Aine is connected with lakes and healing wells. Water is extremely important as a healing aid and I cleanse all my crystals with water from the red spring at Chalice Well gardens in Glastonbury. I bless them all before they are sent out to you so that you may receive the full force of the healing power.

If you are interested in the ancient Celtic ways you might like to take a look at this course that caught my attention. Cat Curacelo's Celtic mysteries course invites you to look at the background that shaped your own life journey and the shapes and symbols that occurred along the way. Cat says

" Whether you are new to 'the journey' or returning to this tribe, this will be a wonderful opportunity to explore and extend your travelling, using visual narrative as a form in this brand new Celtic Mysteries journey that celebrates ancestral remembering and our deep myths."Once Upon a Mythos Cat Caracelo

The important thing to note when looking for healing is to find the right mix of things that are right for you and to remember that your biggest help is Mother Earth. If you are drawn to a particular crystal, goddess, pentacle, stone, herb then there is often a reason for that. Modern medicine can often be used alongside traditional remedies and there is often no reason you cannot take both as long as you check with your healthcare provider. Our earth is a powerful healer and she has much to offer us as long as we give back in return.
Celebrating the earth at Glastonbury White Spring Beltane 2014

In the words of the wonderful Glennie Kindred
"Experiencing deep heartfelt connections to the Earth will bring us closer to understanding ourselves and trusting out intuition. It will help us foster a sense of belonging and love for the Earth and all peoples of the Earth.  To live in harmony with the earth, we need to remember our connection to her."
Glennie Kindred Earth Wisdom

So do you have a favourite healing goddess, a favourite crystal or a favourite icon? Strong symbols can often make us feel powerful and obviously colour makes a difference in the choice of crystal we go for. A carnelian stone with an owl and wolf charm might be my choice for my exam charm.......

Goddess blessings to you, may you be abundant and blessed in all you do this month, AstarteAlison XXXXX

My photos in Spirit and Destiny Magazine. Article on Spirit Rescue, helping a spirit cross over.

Very excited that my photographs have been published in this month's Spirit and Destiny Magazine! For those of my lovely readers in the US and anywhere else not in the UK this is a lovely magazine brimming with lots of info on all things Spiritual: Pagan, angels, chakra healing, crystal healing, horoscopes, psychic, mediumship, you name it they cover it basically.

Anyway a very good friend of mine Sarah Jewsbury is a very talented Medium who has a column for them and performed a Spirit Rescue. They needed a photographer and she recommended me. Now I am not a professional photographer at all so the whole thing was very nerve wrecking but enjoyable at the same time! I felt very privileged to be a part of this wonderful process and to work with such lovely people. To be featured in the wonderful Spirit and Destiny is a great honour and to see my photographs in print is very exciting! It was a very interesting story about this spirit Catherine who had attached herself to this house and to the client due to the fact that she couldn't move on so Sarah performed the rescue to help her do so, to cross over. She did this with the help of a spirit guide. You can read the whole story in the magazine which is just out now. If you would like to find out more about spirit rescue I'm sure Sarah would be happy to talk to you.

Bright October blessings to you,

Alison xxx

Making healing protective full moon water

Moon Water

When our moon is at her fullest, her beautiful light shines down on us and the power that she has over us and all living creatures that inhabit this earth with us is at it’s greatest. Studies have shown that accident rates are higher at the time of the full moon and a recent study showed that the full moon even affected our quality and quantity of sleep. Making moon water at full moon means that you can harness the wonderful power of the moon to use throughout the month.  So rather than only having a couple of days to soak up the moon’s fabulous energy, you can make this moon water and then enjoy this amazing energy all month.

First of all find a metal or glass bowl.  A nice blue or purple bowl would be good for this moon water exercise.  You then need to fill your container with water. If you can get hold of natural spring water perfect, if not just use tap water, filtered if possible. You now need to find somewhere either in your garden or on a windowsill where it will be bathed in moonlight at some point during the night.  I usually stand for a while in a place where I can see the full moon and imagine the full moon energy coursing through my body and down into the earth so that I am full of energy yet fully grounded. You then need to add your intent to your moon water. Hold your hands over the bowl and picture the moon’s energy entering the water molecules, the spectacular white light shining down and into the very core of each drop of water.

You may like to add a blessing to strengthen your intent such as “Blessed moon lend your strength and courage to the water I make this night. May it be filled with your ever lasting love and healing power, blessed be”
If you have a favourite crystal you can add this to the water, this will increase the water’s power. If you want the water for emotional healing for example, then adding rose quartz to the water would be perfect. Similarly if you want to use the water for protection then you may like to add a little sea salt to the water, which again will increase its natural powers. If you are protecting your home you could use carnelian and if protecting either yourself or your home from negative energy then haematite is a good one to pick. There are of course lots of crystals for different situations so think about what you would like your moon water to do and choose accordingly. If you simply want to harness the power of the moon and have a multi purpose water then the water on it’s own will be plenty powerful.

You probably want to cover your bowl with a layer of thin cling film if it is outside otherwise you end up with little flies in it by morning, which is not ideal! Obviously it is ideal to make this moon water on a clear night when you can see the moon’s rays shining down into your bowl. This however is not necessary, for even when it is cloudy, our moon’s brilliance is still there it’s just that we can’t see her. I have had some brilliant results on rainy stormy nights when all that wild energy has gone into my moon water.

If possible get up before the sun rises to retrieve your moon water.  Pour the moon water into a suitable container to then  use as you require. A thermos flask or a glass container kept in the dark is an ideal container to use. The water can be used in any healing or blessing work that you feel would benefit from the moon’s amazing energy. You can use the moon water to cleanse your crystals, this will leave them with a wonderful full moon energy. You can drink the water a little every day to keep you topped up with that full moon energy all month. Moon water is very healing so if you or someone close to you is ill it can help in the recovery process.

Moon water that you have added sea salt to is wonderful as a protective water. Take your water and sprinkle around the border of your house to protect it. Dab the water on your forehead for protection of yourself against any unwanted energy.

Full moon Blessings, Alison

Read something positive every night. Tom Hopkins Inspirational quote and practising gratitude

“Read something positive every night and listen to something helpful every morning.” - Tom Hopkins

This isn't always the easiest thing to do when we are bombarded by news stories telling us of all the day to day horrors that continue in our world. However we can decide tune into the positive sides of the stories that we hear and not focus on the negative as is often all too easy to do.  For me I like to go to bed with a good book, I can escape into the fantasy world of the book and have that fantasy world in my head as I fall asleep. I also practice gratitude before I go to sleep, so if I haven't been able to read something positive I can think about my day and the positives there have been during the day. It is always possible to find three things to feel gratitude for in your day, even when you feel like it has been a day best forgotten and on to the next one!

Listening to something helpful every morning, again not  hugely easy to do but it might be that you put some of your favourite inspirational music on whilst you are making breakfast, or driving to work, or take a few minutes to play a meditation CD and calm your mind for a while. Listening to a positive energy in the morning will then keep you going through any problems that you then encounter during your day. If you experience a difficult day, try to take yourself back to the moment when you were 'in the zone' listening to something that made you feel positive. However bad your day then gets you can still remain grateful for those few minutes that you had. Practising gratitude on a daily basis will really make you change your outlook on life and give you a more positive feeling towards your days.

There are many mediation CDs, or spiritual music around if you want to try that as your helpful start to the day.

I found this was a lovely one:

Music for Healing by Medwyn Goodall
Medwyn has used the very latest in state of the art synthesizers, pulsing waves and sonic healing methods to create washes of sound that depict the power and characteristics of 6 crystals.
Crystals transmit and receive energies to protect, heal and create love and can bring serenity to the home and peace of mind and well-being to the individual.
Further details of this and other wonderful CDs and books can be found here:
Enjoy finding new and positive ways to enjoy your day and always remember to find the little things in life to practise gratitude for!
Blessings to you, Alison

Oestara, Ostara symbolic associations, food, flowers etc

Oestara is a wonderful time of year, the spring equinox when we celebrate the fertility of our Mother Earth and new beginnings. As our earth springs to life, so may our lives reflect that new growth and anticipation.

Below are associations with Oestara for your information. You may like to use this information to think about ways to decorate your home or your altar, food to prepare for this feast or ways to celebrate with family and friends. Enjoy.

Oestara Symbolic associations: rabbit and the egg , the element air, the direction east, the morning star and the time of dawn, new moon butterflies and cocoons

Oestara Colours: Green, white and silver. Lemon yellow, pale green and pale pink, all pastels. These are wonderful colours to decorate your home and your Oestara altar with at this time of year, welcome in the Spring!

Ostara Foods: Eggs, honey cakes, first fruits of the season. Dairy foods like cheese and ice-cream, if you are Vegan substitute these for soya varieties. Also include foods made of seeds, such as sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds. Sprouts are wonderful as they symbolize the new growth of Oestara and spring. Leafy salad greens are great, include some dandelion leaves for variety and de-toxification.
This is from Scott Cunningham:
“Foods in tune with this day (linking your meals with the seasons is a fine method of attuning with nature) include those made of seeds, such as sunflower, pumpkin and sesame seeds, as well as pine nuts. Sprouts are equally appropriate, as are leafy, green vegetables. Flower dishes such as stuffed naturtiums or carnation cupcakes also find their place here.” Scott Cunningham

Oestre Flowers:
Daffodil, Violet, Iris, Narcissus, Crocus, Anemone.

The flowers of the anemone were said to bloom either from the blood of Adonis or the tears shed by Aphrodite, his beloved. The Romans picked the first anemone of the year as a health protectant, saying "I gather this against all diseases". They wore the flowers around the neck in garlands. You could do the same, wearing flowers in your hair or as a necklace.
Ostara Comments
~Magickal Graphics~

Crocus is a flower often grown in the home to attract love. Giving a Crocus plant to someone as a house blessing would be a wonderful Oestara activity.

Any spring flowers that grow in your local area would be appropriate for Oestara. Bring the spring into your home with some locally grown cut flowers. Do remember to ask the flower’s permission for any blooms that you cut down to bring indoors.

Oestara, Ostara Gemstones: Aquamarine, agate, amazonite, amethyst, aquamarine, bloodstone rose quartz, jasper and moonstone.

Ostara Gods and goddesses: Goddesses: Persephone, Blodeuwedd, Eostre, Aphrodite, Athena, Cybele, Gaia, Hera, Isis, Ishtar, Minerva and Venus. Gods: Green Man, Cernunnos, the Dagda, Attis, Mithras, Odin, Thoth, Osiris and Pan.

Persephone is particularly appropriate as she represents spring, being the time that she comes back to her mother Demeter after spending winter in the underworld with Hades.
The full story of Persephone may be found here:
http://www.astartemoonblog.com/search?q=persephone

Any maiden Goddesses and youthful Gods are appropriate for this spring festival of Eostre or Ostara, welcome the  Gods and Goddesses of Spring into your life.
Symbolism of Ostara: Oestara is seen as the Pagan celebration of fertility, re-birth and new life.
The Union of the Goddess and the God, and dispensing of the old and making way for the new are common themes.

Oestre Herbs: lavender, marjoram, thyme, tarragon, lovage, vervain. A blend of lovely Oestara herbs is detailed at the bottom of this post. Planting a herb garden is a wonderful way to celebrate Oestara and then you will have fabulous spring herbs to hand whenever you need them.

Oestara Ostara Incense: jasmine, frankincense, myrrh, dragon's blood, cinnamon, nutmeg, aloes wood, benzoin, musk, African violet, sage, strawberry, lotus, violet flowers, orange peel, or rose petals. Any floral incense is lovely at this time of year to remind you of Springtime and the returning of the light.

Animals and Mythical Beasts to represent Oestara: rabbits, snakes, unicorns, merpeople, and pegasus

Eostre Candle Colors: White, Yellow and Green. Beautiful aromatherapy candles may be purchased here: http://www.astarte-moon.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=candle

Oestara Trees: The Alder, a tree sacred to the God Bran, who is said to protect the British Isles. The buds of the alder are set in a spiral, which symbolizes reincarnation, and new growth that we see at springtime. According to the poet Robert Graves, alder is called Fearn, and represents the letter F in the Beth-Luis-Nion tree calendar. The Greek deity Cronos was also represented by an alder tree.  Also young oak trees are significant at Oestara.

I hope you have enjoyed this post and found it useful. Please feel free to share/comment.

Further Eostre information:

This is their description “Ostara Spring Blossoms Casting Herbs are a proprietary blessed mix of beautifully freshly dried flowers, herbs and woods including organic Hibiscus, Heather, Hemp, Linden Flowers, Dandelion Flowers and Root, Jasmine, Rose, Lavender, Garden Sage, Willow, Oak, Marigold, Vervain and Hops Flowers and more, topped with magickal Crystal Quartz gemstones. This blend is so naturally aromatic and pretty, what a wonderful way to celebrate the season and the coming of spring!~

Created to empower your Ostara Bonfire, simply cast a handful of this blessed blend right into your bonfire!~ There is plenty at hand! You can also use as an Ostara potpourri and place in a bowl upon the altar as an offering or to simply add an all natural essence within your sacred space. Sprinkle around the base of candles or cast a bit into the garden or forest as a sacred offering to the earth in celebration and honor of the coming of spring.

Burn as a loose incense in your sacred burning vessel. This magickal blend will intoxicate and fill the air, inside or out of doors, with a pure organic and fragrant all natural fragrance. This authentic aroma is so powerful that just about a half a teaspoon full burned on a disk will fill up your sacred space with a mood transforming all natural wintery scent.
