Crystal Charms and Goddesses for Healing which are you drawn to ?

Emerging as I often do like a sleepy kitten from a long sleep when I have had these long stretches of migraines I feel drawn to sit and create so that is what I am going to do today, catch up on orders that need posting and make some new pieces. I would like to make some new healing charms I think so if anyone has any needs then please let me know, I love doing special pieces. Each crystal and charm has its own story to tell and put together may be just the right combination for you to begin your own healing and transformation. First thing I am going to make this afternoon is a good luck charm for my daughter who has been studying so hard for her A levels.

Aceso was the main Greek Goddess for healing. Indeed her name is said to mean curing. She was known for tackling the healing process, the root cause not just the problem itself, thus can be seen as the root of holistic medicine. We of course have a lot to learn from our ancestors in terms of the way we approach modern healing methods. She shared an altar with Aphrodite and Athena and was the daughter of Epipione and and Asclepius. Aceso also spelt Akeso knew the importance of maintaining good health as well as good hygiene in order to stay fit and well, something that was often neglected when looking to cure a specific disease or illness.

Many of the well known Moon Goddesses such as Aine, Brigid and Isis were known to be powerful healers. Brigid or Brigit was also said to be responsible for fertility and Aine was known for breathing life force into being. Aine is connected with lakes and healing wells. Water is extremely important as a healing aid and I cleanse all my crystals with water from the red spring at Chalice Well gardens in Glastonbury. I bless them all before they are sent out to you so that you may receive the full force of the healing power.

If you are interested in the ancient Celtic ways you might like to take a look at this course that caught my attention. Cat Curacelo's Celtic mysteries course invites you to look at the background that shaped your own life journey and the shapes and symbols that occurred along the way. Cat says

" Whether you are new to 'the journey' or returning to this tribe, this will be a wonderful opportunity to explore and extend your travelling, using visual narrative as a form in this brand new Celtic Mysteries journey that celebrates ancestral remembering and our deep myths."Once Upon a Mythos Cat Caracelo

The important thing to note when looking for healing is to find the right mix of things that are right for you and to remember that your biggest help is Mother Earth. If you are drawn to a particular crystal, goddess, pentacle, stone, herb then there is often a reason for that. Modern medicine can often be used alongside traditional remedies and there is often no reason you cannot take both as long as you check with your healthcare provider. Our earth is a powerful healer and she has much to offer us as long as we give back in return.
Celebrating the earth at Glastonbury White Spring Beltane 2014

In the words of the wonderful Glennie Kindred
"Experiencing deep heartfelt connections to the Earth will bring us closer to understanding ourselves and trusting out intuition. It will help us foster a sense of belonging and love for the Earth and all peoples of the Earth.  To live in harmony with the earth, we need to remember our connection to her."
Glennie Kindred Earth Wisdom

So do you have a favourite healing goddess, a favourite crystal or a favourite icon? Strong symbols can often make us feel powerful and obviously colour makes a difference in the choice of crystal we go for. A carnelian stone with an owl and wolf charm might be my choice for my exam charm.......

Goddess blessings to you, may you be abundant and blessed in all you do this month, AstarteAlison XXXXX

Happiness is a journey not a destination. Ben Sweetland

Happiness is a journey not a destination. Ben Sweetland Gratitude happiness quote

Practising gratitude on a daily basis is a wonderful way to help in your happiness journey. Sometimes it feels like happiness is out of your grasp and certainly not possible everyday. Practising gratitude day by day will help you on your happiness route and make the sad days happen less often. Don't just take my word for it though. Give it a go! Just three things to be grateful for at the end of every day. Our ancestors got it right I believe, these ancient Pagans who came before us offered gratitude all the time to our Mother Earth, believing if they didn't then she wouldn't provide for them.

Let me know how you get on. Stay happy!  Blessings, Alison xxxx

“Get your dreams in line and then just shine, design, refine ‘til they come true.” Inspirational Quote Dolly Parton

“Get your dreams in line and then just shine, design, refine ‘til they come true.” Dolly Parton

I thought I would give you this quote today after Dolly's amazing performance on the stage at the Glasontonbury festival this year. At the fabulous age of 68 she drew the biggest crowd on the Glastonbury 2014 stage, a wonderful feat. She demonstrates such a zest for life and down to earth fun that you can't help but be caught up with her enthusiasm. She teaches us that we can follow our bliss! I love this quote, she shows us to go for our dreams, they may need refining along the way but we can still reach our end goal if we reach hard enough for it.

"You don’t need to have it all figured out, just start where you are. What is it that excites you most right now? Take action. The more you pursue what you love, the more opportunities will come your way. They may not be what you expected — they may be even bigger and better than you imagined! But go ahead and get started. Get to livin’ because life is your canvas, cowgirl."http://mindbodyspiritofacowgirl.com

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence.....

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence..... Desiderata

It does us tremendous good to take time from our busy lives to listen to the silence and draw the peace from it. Nature has a tremendous amount still to teach us.

Through listening to the signs Mother Nature has to teach us we can continue along our spiritual path, it is often only by listening to the silence that we can slow down enough to hear what is truly important. Mother Earth has much to teach us about our own spirituality. Try and take some time out in your busy week to just sit quietly even if it is for only a few minutes, in a park, woodland or garden if possible and listen to the sounds and the quietness present in the nature around us.

Blessings to you all, Alison

"Dance when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off." Positive affirmation. Rumi

"Dance when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting.  Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free" Rumi.

Rumi teaches us the importance of being in touch with your inner soul. Sometimes when life is tough, something as simple as dancing can lift you from the depths of sadness. A simple act like dancing may make you start to feel better, at first you may only be pretending to feel better, putting on a show perhaps for those around you, but eventually you may start to feel better deep within you.
Rumi's book  Rumi's Little Book Of Life: The Garden of the Soul, the Heart, and the Spirit is a wonderfully uplifting read I would recommend to anyone. "This collection of mystical poetry focuses on one of life's core issues: coming to terms with the inner life. During the course of life, each of us is engaged on an inner journey. RUMI'S LITTLE BOOK OF LIFE is a guidebook for that journey. The poetry is a companion for those who consciously enter the inner world to explore the gardens within - out of the everyday 'world of dust'- through an ascending hierarchy that restores one's soul to the heart; the heart of the spirit; and in finding spirit, transcending all." http://www.amazon.co.uk

Total Lunar Eclipse, Blood Moon 14/15 April. The first of The Lunar Tetrad 2014/15

We have our first lunar eclipse of 2014 on 14/15 April.

Lunar Eclipses are always an exciting event and have throughout time always been seen as a deeply spiritual event.  Of course many years ago our ancestors did not understand why our moon was suddenly disappearing and were very disturbed by this fact, often thinking that they had perhaps angered the gods. Now of course we understand the phenomenon and can enjoy the wonderful sight.

This total lunar eclipse is known as a red moon or blood moon seemingly because it will make our moon take on a beautiful red glow, although it is not really known why the term blood moon seems to have been particular applied to this Tetrad of eclipses.

Mars will be at it’s closest to our earth for the year and together the two really will make spectacular viewing.

Position of Mars from Earthsky.org
The lunar eclipse will begin around 2am EDT and last around three hours.

World viewing map from earthsky.org
This lunar eclipse will be the first of four total eclipses that will occur throughout 2014 and 2015, these are collectively known as a tetrad. The next one will be 28th September, followed by another total lunar eclipse or red moon on  4th April 2015 and finally the last blood moon will be 8th October 2015. The Tetrad is four consecutive lunar eclipses spaced at six lunar months apart from each other, with no partial lunar eclipses in between. This Tetrad is a fairly infrequent occurrence and thus and wonderful cosmic and spiritual experience to be a part of.

This string of lunar eclipses or blood moons will bring a deeper understanding of ourselves. This is a time of high energy pulsing over us in waves. Insight may come in a flash and we need to hang on to sparks as they reach us in a surge. Be careful how you handle relationships particularly those close to you as tempers may be slightly frayed just now.

Enjoy viewing the total lunar eclipse and wonder at the amazing blood red moon. If you are not in an area that you can see the moon from you can always watch online and still see the beauty of our moon and enjoy her power from afar.

Blood moon blessings to you,

Alison

The Pagan Wheel of the Year; starting out on your own journey.

The cycle of seasons a lot of Pagans follow is commonly called the wheel of the year. Special events are often described using the Wiccan terms Esbat and Sabbat. Esbats are ritual celebrations of the moon phases. These are often performed on the nights of the full and the new moon. Sabbats are celebrations of the changing of the seasons. They occur approximately every six weeks, with every celebration a noting of the change in the seasons and celebrating all that we can give thanks for.

One of the practices followed by Pagans is adhering to the Wheel of the Year. The year is divided into eight seasons called Sabbats and the beginning of each Sabbat is celebrated. I believe that following the seasons in this way brings us closer to nature, more in touch with our earth’s natural rythyms and thus more in touch with our inner selves. Every six weeks there is a reason for celebration and giving thanks. Doing this helps us keep in touch with the changing year and allows us to celebrate the good in every change. This wheel of the year is based upon ancient Celtic Druid practices; the continuous cycle lends itself to the image of a wheel. The ancient Celts saw time as a wheel or spiral divided by eight festivals.

The Wheel of the year is split into four major sabbats or Fire festivals and four minor sabbats or Solar festivals. The major sabbats represent the peak of the season whereas the minor sabbats represent the beginning of each turning point on the wheel. The minor sabbats are marked by the two equinoxes, spring and autumn, when day and night are of equal length, and the longest and shortest days, Litha and Yule. The major sabbats are smahin, imbolc, Beltane and Lammas.

Below are the dates of each point in the wheel of the year and a very brief description. More detail on each Sabbat is given in the appropriate blog posts for that season.

October 31, Samhain (Halloween, Witches new year)
Samhain (pronounced -sow-wen) is midway between the fall equinox and the winter solstice, this is a major Sabbat. Samhain is the third harvest festival. It is a time for honouring and remembering our deceased loved ones.
December 21/22, Yule
Yule is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year, and the birthday of the sun. This is a time for looking forward to the return of the light and a time to remember the importance of family and friends.
February 2, Imbolc (Brigid’s day Imbolc, Candlemas, Oimelc)
Imbolc is the midpoint between Yule and Spring Equinox. We celebrate the gentle signs of early spring, and of light returning after the darkness of winter. Imolc reminds us that spring is on its way and it is a festival of preparation, this is a time to prepare for any major projects in our lives.

March 22, Oestara (Spring Equinox, Ostara, Eostre)
At the spring equinox day and light are of equal length, this this is a festival of balance. Oestara is a time to look at any imbalances in our lives and correct them if needed. It is a time to celebrate the Spring and is a fabulous fertile time for new ideas to be sown.
May 1, Beltane (May Day)
Beltane is the midpoint between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice. Beltane is a fire festival and is a time for fertility and creativity of all kinds.
June 21, Litha (Summer Solstice)
Litha is the time of the longest day and shortest night of the year. This is a time of strength and fertility when the sun is at it’s strongest.
August 2, Lammas (Lughnasad pronounced loo-noss'-sad)
Lammas is the midpoint between Summer Solstice and Fall Equinox. This is the first harvest, when we rejoice in the first fruits of the season. This is a celebration of all that we are grateful for.
September 21/22, Mabon (Autumn/Fall Equinox)
Mabon is the major harvest or thanksgiving festival, It is again a time when day and night are in balance, a time for creating balance in our lives and finishing any un completed projects.
You may like to meditate on which particular point on the wheel of the year calls to you? Which season is your favourite and which is your least favourite? By getting more in touch with each festival you may learn to love a time of the year that has traditionally been harder for you. If for example the shorter days are a struggle, concentrate upon the beauty that the turning leaves of autumn bring and allow yourself the time to look inward and nurture yourself.
Below is a lovely pictorial representation of the Pagan Wheel of the Year from paganspoonie.blogspot. A wonderful way to start you on your own wheel of the year journey is to make your own. It doesn’t have to be a work of art by any means, you can draw simple images of what each festival represents to you. Another idea is to cut out pictures from magazines to represent each wheel of the year point, or write words that embody the season’s properties for you. I would love to see examples of your creations.

Full Moon names for September: harvest moon, barley moon, corn moon

The moon closest to the autumnal equinox or Mabon is often called the Harvest Moon due to its obvious connection with this harvest celebration. Mabon is the celebration of the harvesting of the grain and the point on the wheel of the year when day and night are in perfect balance.

The September equinox moon is particularly special due to it’s timing co-inciding with this point of balance. Usually the moon rises about 50 minutes later than the time of the sunset. However when a full moon occurs close to the autumnal equinox, the moon rises only about 30 minutes later daily for several days before and after the full Harvest moon. This is because the elliptic, or orbital path, makes a narrow angle with the evening horizon around the time of the autumn equinox. The narrow angle of the ecliptic results in a shorter than normal rising time between sunset and moonrise.
Because there is relatively little time of darkness between sunset and moonrise this was perfect for the farmers so a lot of harvesting of the crops was achieved around the time of the full harvest moon. The corn moon and barley moon were other popular names for this September moon that were also based around the harvest theme.
In China the moon nearest the autumn equinox is called the kindly moon or Chrysanthemum moon. In China, Taiwan and Vietnam the equinox/ Mabon is celebrated with the Moon festival also known as Mooncake festival or Zhongqui Festival.  This festival honours Chang’e the lunar Goddess and it commemorates the only day in the year that she can visit her husband Houyi who lives on the sun. Because of this it is seen as a celebration of the balance of yin and yang. The mooncake festival is a time of giving gratitude and being with family and friends. In Japan, people gather at lakes or in special moon- viewing pavilions and eat "moon-viewing noodles": thick white noodles in broth with an egg yolk floating on top.  This moon is seen as a moon of peace and family re-union similar to thanksgiving traditions, hence the term ‘Kindly moon’
The September equinox full moon is all about balance. Day and night are of equal length and we are at the beginning of autumn, balancing on the edge before we tip into that time when the nights become longer than the days. Try and take some time during the Mabon full moon to think about anything in your life that is out of balance. How can you change that? Maybe there is something that you need to let go of during the waning moon weeks that follow?
Below is a list of full moon names from around the world.

Imagine you are sending light out all around you. Thich Nhat Hanh. Positive Inspirational Quote

" Imagine you are sending light out all around you. All your words, thoughts and actions are going in many directions. If you say something kind, your kind words go in many directions and you yourself go with them. We are transforming and continuing in a
different form at every moment" Thich Nhat Hanh

I love these words from the wonderful Thich Nhat Hanh. The words we speak are important and we should choose them carefully. If we speak kind words to people those kind words will spread like a ripple on a lake throughout the universe in many directions. So speak kind words whenever you can. Shine your light, let everyone see it.

Thich Nhat Hanh has written many wonderful books one of which is
Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life

"Lucidly and beautifully written, PEACE IS EVERY STEP contains commentaries and meditations, personal anecdotes and stories from Nhat Hanh's experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the reader already is - in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking in a park - and shows how deep meditative presence is available now. Nhat Hanh provides exercises to increase our awareness of our own body and mind through conscious breathing, which can bring immediate joy and peace. Nhat Hanh also shows how to be aware of relationships with others and of the world around us, its beauty and also its pollution and injustices. The deceptively simple practices of PEACE IN EVERY STEP encourage the reader to work for peace in the world as he or she continues to work on sustaining inner peace by turning the 'mindness' into the mindful.

'This is a very worthwhile book. It can change individual lives and the life of our society. ' H. H. the Dalai Lama."

Enjoy shining your light, bright blessings to you, Alison

If we are to have magical bodies, we must have magical minds. Wayne Dyer Positive Inspirational Quote

If we are to have magical bodies, we must have magical minds. Wayne Dyer

Ok so after a week of not posting due to horrid migraines I'm on a bit of a roll today! This one in another one from one of my personal favourites Wayne Dyer. I love everything that may writes he says such words of wisdom!

This is another picture featuring my pentacles and flowers, demonstrating how the pentacle appears in nature, showing the magick in all thing. I hope to be taking some more of these photos again soon.

Wayne Dyer has written many amazing books, one brilliant book that I like is  Wishes Fulfilled: Mastering the Art of Manifesting This is a book that shows you how you can truly achieve all that you desire. You really can realise your dreams and achieve your destiny.

Another great book written by Wayne Dyer is and based on Taoist wisdom is Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living The Wisdom Of The Tao "In this book, Dr Wayne W. Dyer has reviewed hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching and has written 81 distinct essays on how to apply the ancient wisdom of Lao Tzu to today's modern world. Each chapter is designed for actually living the Tao or the Great Way today. Some of the chapter titles are "Living with Flexability", "Living without Enemies", and "Living by Letting Go". Each of the 81 brief chapters focuses on living the Tao and concludes with a section called "Doing the Tao Now".Wayne spent one entire year reading, researching, and meditating on Lao Tzu's messages, practicing them each day and ultimately writing down these essays as he felt Lao Tzu wanted you to know them. This is a work to be read slowly, one essay a day. As Wayne says, "This is a book that will forever change the way you look at your life, and the result will be that you'll live in a new world aligned with nature".Amazon

I also personally find mediation CDs very helpful when I want to mediate but just can't stop the 'monkey chattering' of my mind on that particular day. Some days are better than others. Wayne Dyers CD I AM Wishes Fulfilled Meditations is a fabulous one to listen to, really inspiring.

"you must be willing to do a somersault into the unconceivable and land on your feet" Wayne Dyer positive affirmation quote

"The Wright brothers didn’t contemplate the staying on the ground of things. Alexander Graham Bell didn’t contemplate the noncommunication of things. Thomas Edison didn’t contemplate the darkness of things. In order to float an idea into your reality, you must be willing to do a somersault into the unconceivable and land on your feet, contemplating what you want instead of what you don’t have." Wayne Dyer

Reach for the stars, you can do it! You have the universe on your side, ask for nature to help you along the way and listen to any help she has to offer you.

Sparkly blessings, Alison

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. Melody Beattie inspirational quote

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. " Melody Beattie

This is a fabulous quote from the wonderful Melody Beattie. A wonderful reminder to practice a little gratitude in our everyday lives and unlock our happiness, it encourages us to make sense of some of the chaos that life can often throw at us. We all have chaos from time to time, deal with sadness and pain, but somehow if we can find gratitude it makes the world a better place.

Melody Beattie has written some wonderful books. In Make Miracles in Forty Days: Turning What You Have into What You Want In Make Miracles in Forty Days Beattie now offers the ultimate distillation of what she knows about gratitude, surrender, and connecting with our essential power. She challenges us to be more present each day and details a six-week action plan, the Miracle Exercise, to jump-start transformation in our lives. After completing a series of activities, we'll establish what miracles we'd like to create, and then she'll walk us through practicing this innovative exercise alone, with a partner, and even with our children. Beattie instructs us to be thankful for everything in our lives; we need to express gratitude for what we have and who we are. It is crucial that we are grateful for recognizing what is upsetting and bothering us. Through acknowledging the pain that we're feeling, we can excise any denial or resistance that is holding us back. As we progress over the forty days, instead of feeling lost, numb, or confused, we'll become more conscious, aware, and alive. Our miracle will begin to materialize.

Melody Beattie has also written a lovely book of meditations Journey to the Heart: Daily Meditations on the Path to Freeing Your Soul In the spirit of her bestselling"The Language of Letting Go", a beloved inspirational writer guides us on a sacred journey as we learn to expand our creativity, embrace our powers, and open our hearts. Writing with the same warmth, honesty, and compassion that has attracted such a loyal following, Melody Beattie now charts a new path toward spiritual growth and renewal. In 365 insightful and delightfully warm daily reflections, "Journey to the Heart" will comfort and inspire us all as we begin to discover our true purpose in the world and learn to connect even more deeply with ourselves, the creative force, and the magic and mystery in the world around and within us.

You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness.
You were born with wings.
You are not meant for crawling, so don't.
You have wings.
Learn to use them and fly.”

Rumi

This is a fabulous quote from the wonderful Rumi. I know I have said it before but I will say it again, I love the words that Rumi says, they have such a purity and clarity to them, he uses such beautiful language but makes his point in such a simple manner.

You were born with wings, you may not see them but they are there. Beautiful shining magickal sparkly wings. Unlock your true potential and fly, fly higher than you ever dreamed that you could. You can, you can do it, you have it within you, you were born with greatness.

I am enough. I practice kindness. Molly Mahar Quote free positive affirmation card

"I AM ENOUGH. I am full of sparkle and compassion.  I genuinely want to make the world a better place.  I love hard.   I practice kindness.   I’m not afraid of the truth.  I am loyal, adventurous, supportive, and surprising.  I am a woman.  I am enough. I make mistakes, but I own them and learn from them.  Sometimes I make a bunch of mistakes. " Molly Mahar

Mollly Mahar's words are inspirational. She says words that really make us believe in ourselves.  You are enough. I am enough. We are all enough. We are all doing our best. You are enough I am enough. Say it out loud.  I am enough. Say it in the mirror to yourself everyday. Smile at yourself and say it again. I am enough. I make mistakes, I fall, I get back up again. I practice kindness.  I start each day afresh with a new pair of eyes, a fresh outlook on a brand new day. I practise loving kindness throughout my day and this makes the day more beautiful and worthwhile. My day has more sparkle because of it. We never know what each day will bring; what challenges and what pleasant surprises but we will rise to the challenges and welcome all the pleasant surprises.

If you would like to keep this as a free positive affirmation card then feel free to save it to your computer by right clicking on the image. You could then set it as your background or print it out and place somewhere you will see it everyday, for example the back of your front door.

Some more amazing words from Molly:
"I accept that a sense of wonder is something to cultivate. I accept that I sometimes self medicate with alcohol, with filling my life full of busyness, with going into self imposed isolation.  I accept that I crave financial abundance, a freedom to do what I want, when I want it.  I am still enough."

You are enough. I am enough. We are all enough

Kindness blessings, Alison xxx
