Brigid's Imbolc blessings positive inspirational quote. Follow the Brigid bliss.

Imbolc blessings to you and all those you hold dear, wherever you are, all around the world.

May the Goddess Brighde be in your hearts and her love bring all the goodness of the first awakenings of spring to you and those around you. Brighde, Brigit or Brigid was celebrated as the Goddess of Fertility, may she bring prosperity, fertility and happiness into all aspects of your lives. Brigid was said to be the mother of the God Yule, she is nursing him now at Imbolc as he grows strong. She is known as the fire goddess and many celebrations centre around fire building and the lighting of candles. Brigid is one of the few Pagan goddesses who still survives to this day, she was adopted by the Christian church and was worshipped as Saint Brigit,  although she was de canonised in the 1960s, she is still venerated in Ireland.

Embrace the spirit of Brigid and bring her love and joy into your lives. Our earth is awakening, allow yourselves to awaken and blossom, you will be amazed at the wonderful happiness that lies waiting ahead of you. Follow the Brigid Bliss.

Brigid's blessings to you, AstarteAlison

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence.....

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence..... Desiderata

It does us tremendous good to take time from our busy lives to listen to the silence and draw the peace from it. Nature has a tremendous amount still to teach us.

Through listening to the signs Mother Nature has to teach us we can continue along our spiritual path, it is often only by listening to the silence that we can slow down enough to hear what is truly important. Mother Earth has much to teach us about our own spirituality. Try and take some time out in your busy week to just sit quietly even if it is for only a few minutes, in a park, woodland or garden if possible and listen to the sounds and the quietness present in the nature around us.

Blessings to you all, Alison

The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature. Joseph Campbell.

The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature. Joseph Campbell.

Fabulous quote from the wonderful writer Joseph Campbell. The lovely photography is by Denis Savoie Photography.

It is important as we go through life that we are working with Mother Nature not against her. It is all too easy in the busy lives we lead to forget the importance that nature has to play in all our lives, our happiness and our spiritual development.

"Joseph Campbell was the world s greatest authority on myth, his monumental four-volume The Masks of God is a definitive work on the subject, and in Myths to Live By he explores how these enduring myths still influence our daily lives and can provide personal meaning in our lives. Myths are a way of explaining the cosmos, the origin of life and Man s relationship with their environment; they play a cohesive role in society. Joseph Campbell analyses myth in psychoanalytic terms to reveal their essential qualities and to demonstrate how they continue to reflect human needs, providing reassurance even in today s world. Ranging from Zen koans and Indian aesthetics to walking on the moon, Joseph Campbell explores how myth and religion follow the same archetypes, which are not exclusive to any single race, religion or region. Campbell believed that all religion is a search for the same transcendent and fundamental spiritual truths. He shows how we must recognise the common denominators between differing myths and faiths and allow this knowledge to fulfil human potential everywhere."

Full Moon January 2014, full wolf moon

What is your favourite name for our full moon in January, the beginning of 2014? This is a very important moon being the first of the New Year and signals new beginnings and opportunities for growth. January is named for the Roman god Janus who had two faces and ruled over beginnings and endings and the past and the future.

As we have seen in previous moon names, a lot of the names our ancestors called this January moon are centred around the weather. January is often the most bitterly cold month of the year. Although our world is returning to the light, the days are still reasonably short and the cold can often be extreme. Thus we see words such as winter moon, cold moon, moon of the terrible and ice moon being used, these names are particularly common with North American Indian tribes. Other names that they used include Cooking Moon, Moon of the Terrible, Moon When Trees Pop, Moon of the Raccoon, Full Snow Moon. The January Full Moon was the time for the Cold Moon Dance. Also at this time, community fires were put out and new ones made from the ashes of the old.
Below are some popular names for the January Moon
American                  Winter Moon
Chinese                     Holiday Moon
Cherokee                  Cold Moon
Choktaw                    Cooking Moon
Dakatah Sioux            Moon of the terrible
Celtic                         Quiet Moon
English                       Wolf Moon
Pagan                         Ice Moon
Druid                         Poets Moon

We often see moons named for the flora and fauna that are around at that time of the year. Therefore wolf moon is a popular name for the January Moon. In ancient times during the cold month of January wolves often crept closer to human settlements in their search for food. Their cries would be heard very distinctly and thus it would be natural to name the January moon after them.

It is also said that the name of the Wolf Moon comes from the ancient Scottish Gaelic word Faoilleach, which means “wolf month”

If you are born under the sign of the Wolf Moon you will be fiercely loyal to close friends and family- your ‘pack’.  Although sometimes hard to get to know, once you have welcomed someone into your inner circle you have a friend for life. You are strong when you need to be and face adversity head on. You are also hard working and will keep your head down and get on with anything that has to be completed.

The Chinese name of Holiday Moon rreflects the Chinese New Year which occurs on the first day of the New Moon. Chinese New Year is considered a time for settling debts, honouring ancestors, and being with family.

The druids called this moon Poet’s Moon. As the first full moon in the year, this is a perfect time for creativity, your writing, drawing and painting will flow very easily during this January Moon.

Here is a poem for you to celebrate the Poet’s Moon

Silver

Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy coat the white breasts peep
Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep;
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws, and silver eye;
And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.
- Walter de la Mare

In the Southern Hemisphere moon names reflect the warmth that is predominant now. Thus popular names for the January moon are: Hay Moon, Buck Moon, Thunder Moon, Mead Moon

Choose a name that resonates with you and embodies the sprit of the January Moon. Think about the qualities that name has and try and encorporate those into your daily life. I’m going to go with Wolf Moon for the January Moon 2014 and concentrate on the strength and grounding that this wonderful animal can show us.

Books, daffodils and tress. A quote on gratitude and the wonders of nature.

Books, daffodils and trees. How wonderful is life! We have much to be grateful for.
Try and take some time this month to spend a little time with nature. A walk around your local park, or sitting beneath an ancient tree are wonderful ways to ground yourself. Even spending five minutes each day just standing barefoot is a fabulous way to connect with the earth and ground yourself.  Let nature's strength and love course through your veins, re-vitalising you and filling you with serenity and hope. For my cousins on the Southern Hemisphere, happy arrival of spring to you. I am very grateful for all that nature provides for us and very much looking forward to the arrival of spring with its beautiful bulbs and blossom on the trees. In the meantime I am going to offer gratitude for the autumn and winter and all their magickal delights. As the wheel turns there are always so many wonderful things to be grateful for.  Our Mother Earth, Gaia is truly an amazing place, giving us her unconditional love.
Blessings to you all, Alison

The Spiritual Meanings Behind Colours

The Spiritual Meanings Behind Colours

Different colours are very evocative to different people and so it has been throughout the ages. Celtic people, Native Americans and other earth based spiritualities assigned different colours for the different elements. Commonly air is seen as yellow, fire is red, earth is green and water is blue. Traditionally green is seen as associated with earth based or Pagan spiritualities. Diana Paxson and her branch of the Asatru associate colours with deities: Odhinn is black and blue; Thor red; Freya and Freyr green and gold, or sometimes brown.

In some wiccan/pagan paths, colour is combined into the crafting of spells these may be for various reasons:
for health, peace, love, and personal growth. Colour conveys mood very quickly and can help with healing on a very deep level.

The ancient Egyptians, Chinese, and Indians believed in chromotherapy, or healing with colors. In chromotherapy, red is believed to stimulate physical and mental energies, yellow to stimulate the nerves, orange to stimulate the solar plexus and revitalize the lungs, blue to soothe and heal organic disorders such as colds, hay fever, and liver problems, and indigo to counteract skin problems and fevers. Premature babies with jaundice are cured by a chemical reaction triggered by exposure to blue light for several days.

Colour is very evocative of mood. Different colours can completely change the mood that we are in. Much research has gone into this and is behind a lot of the colour choices that go into our decorating decisions for our own homes.

Colours are also very important as related to the Hindu philosophy of Chakras. I won’t go into a big explanation of the chakras here as I’m sure a lot of you already have that knowledge and that is a whole other post!

Below is a brief summary of the spiritual qualities associated with each colour.

White.
White is perfect for connecting with elemental spirits and angels, your higher self and spiritual guides. It is good for purification and healing. White also corresponds to the Maiden form of the Triple Goddess.

Yellow.
Yellow represents the element of air. Symbolizes vitality, progress, change and communication, willpower, confidence and warmth. Light a yellow candle if you are having relationship problems or need a boost in confidence, it will bring joy and happiness to your life. Yellow corresponds with the Solar plexus chakra.
Chakras from Pranagyoga.com

Gold.
Gold is the symbol of all sun-deities and masculine energy. Excellent for promoting self-confidence, success in business and financial matters, overcoming bad habits. Carry a gold coin to attract success.

Orange.
Associated with deities of good luck and good fortune. Represents charm, kindness, success abundance, prosperity, sexual desire, procreation, change, joy, tolerance. Sacral Chakra. Orange is wonderful for raising your energies, try wearing an orange top or scarf.

Red
Red represents the element of fire in many pagan religions. It is associated with deities of love, passion, sexuality and war. Red brings courage, will-power, determination, speed, assertiveness, aggression, masculinity, self-preservation, grounding and material stability. Red is the color of the Mother Aspect of the Triple Goddess. The ruby, a precious gemstone with a brilliant red color, was worn in China to promote long life. Represents the Root chakra. Wear red to promote self confidence and assertiveness, even if it is a small item of jewellery.

Pink.
Love goddesses, softness and tenderness, romance, caring, nurturing, emotional healing. While red is associated with fiery love and passion, pink corresponds to the gentler aspects of these emotions. Put pink rose quartz by your bed to re-kindle romance.

Green
Green is the element of earth. All earth based spiritualities. Corresponds with Nature and fertility deities, Mother goddesses. Represents: nature, fertility, growth, rejuvenation, recovery, healing, unconditional love, compassion, forgiveness. Represented by the heart chakra. Dirty or muddy green corresponds to envy, hate, and sickness (a "sickly green", so to speak) Green is especially useful in colour magic spells for healing and for wealth drawing. Green has great healing power. It can soothe pain. People who work in green environments have fewer stomachaches. Suicides dropped 34% when London's Blackfriar Bridge was painted green. Green was a sacred color to the Egyptians representing the hope and joy of Spring.

 Turquoise
Turquoise brings intellectual and intuitive insights, inventions and originality, renewal.
Blue
Blue is the element of water. Deities of the sea. Peace and tranquility, calmness, truth, wisdom, justice, prophetic dreams, protection during sleep, astral projection, communication, speech, creative writing. Representative of the throat chakra.

Violet/Purple
Elemental spirits and angels. Psychic abilities, divination. Crown chakra. Deepens personal spiritual awareness, as well as working with  divine power. Use fluorite to aid in deepening psychic abilities.

Amethyst rose quartz sun catcher http://www.astarte-moon.co.uk/shop/

Indigo
Indigo corresponds to the Brow (or Pineal, or Third Eye) Chakra. Justice, wisdom, inspiration, intuition, spirituality, psychic powers. It can also be used in colour magic to help reduce phobias and stress.

Brown
Stability, grounding, conservation, protection of household, family and pets, healing animals, finding lost objects.

Grey
Neutralizing negative influences, putting a halt to negative action.

Silver
Moon-goddesses, female energy, cycles, rebirth, reincarnation, healing of hormonal imbalances, emotional stability. It is very useful in divination and meditation

Black
Deities of the Underworld. Repel and banish evil and negativity, protection, deep meditation. Black is the color of the Crone aspect of the Triple Goddess.

You can use these colours in a variety of ways. You can wear the colour of your choice, if for example you wish to particularly connect with nature and be grounded then brown and green clothing would be a perfect combination. Wear yellow or orange to work if you need a self confidence boost.

For spellwork and blessings, coloured candles, altar cloths, talismans and writing in particular colours are very effective. Birthday candles make a very inexpensive way of building up your coloured candle cache or coloured t-lights which are abundant during the summer bar-b-q season.
Red Spell Candle http://www.astarte-moon.co.uk/shop/

When meditating imagining yourself surrounded by a particular colour is very effective. For example for protection you can imagine yourself within a beautiful bubble and then colour that bubble blue for peace and protection whenever you need it. Meditating in front of a coloured candle is a way of concentrating the colour.

What colour resonates with you? Which colours to you shy away from? Try and examine why that is? Is there some imbalance that you need to look at within your life? For me I never wore red. I always justified it in that it clashed with my red hair but I eventually realized that I was imbalanced and needed to allow my masculine side a little more space. So now I do wear red, only a very little, a pair of red flip flops are a favourite and a few red bangles but it does give me a bit more self confidence, I’m a very moon gazy  girl and I do have to learn that the golden energy is there too!

Blessings of colour and sparkles to you, alison xxx

Some people feel the rain others just get wet. Bob Marley positive inspirational quote

Some people feel the rain others just get wet.
Bob Marley

I love this quote. It is raining here today. That soft gentle rain that soaks everything in a beautiful drenching mist. I love standing in my garden and feeling the rain soak my skin as it falls from the sky towards the earth.  Feeling, dancing, just being in the rain is a wonderful way of really connecting with our Mother Earth. Imagine yourself fully grounded with your feet deeply rooted to the ground and absorb the healing energy of this wonderful water falling from the sky. Really feel the rain, be at one with the rain, don't see it as a nuisance wetting your hair and causing you to have to take an umbrella to work! Send out gratitude to the universe for this wonderful gift we have of sweet life giving rain. We need our rain to survive we should embrace it's beauty.

So go out next time it is raining and feel the rain!

Blessings to you, Alison xxx

Perseid Meteor Shower August 2013. Spiritual significance throughout time.

The Perseids have been spotted already for some keen viewers! The spectacular Perseids meteor shower will peak, on the mornings of August 11-13. Luckily our moon will be a crescent moon in the evening sky, leaving the peak meteor-watching hours of midnight to dawn free and clear.
“As a general rule, the Perseid meteors tend to be few and far between at nightfall and early evening. Yet, if fortune smiles upon you, you could catch an earthgrazer – a looooong, slow, colorful meteor traveling horizontally across the evening sky. Earthgrazer meteors are rare but most exciting and memorable, if you happen to spot one. Perseid earthgrazers can only appear at early to mid-evening, when the radiant point of the shower is close to the horizon.

As evening deepens into late night, and the meteor shower radiant climbs higher in the sky, more and more Perseid meteors streak the nighttime. The meteors don’t really start to pick up steam until after midnight, and usually don’t bombard the sky most abundantly until the wee hours before dawn. You may see 50 or so meteors per hour in a dark sky.” http://earthsky.org/tonight
You don’t need any special equipment to see these spectacular perseid meteors, just as wide an open space as possible,  and some warm clothing. Then lie back and enjoy the wonderful spectacle! Be at one with the universe as you enjoy this amazing sight. If it is a dry night then lie right on the grass if you can, this is a wonderful time to be grounded and totally at one with nature. It helps if you know the general direction of the constellation Perseus but the key is to keep your eyes relaxed and adjusted to the dark. Meteors often come in clusters so you may not see any for ages and then a few may come along together. You may have a long wait but these Perseid meteors are certainly worth it and you will have a wonderfully spiritual experience watching them. You will fee completely relaxed and as though you and nature are in perfect harmony after this incredible grounding and spiritual perseid meteor experience.

“What’s the source of the Perseid meteor shower? Every year, from around July 17 to August 24, our planet Earth crosses the orbital path of Comet Swift-Tuttle, the parent of the Perseid meteor shower. Debris from this comet litters the comet’s orbit, but we don’t really get into the thick of the comet rubble until after the first week of August. The bits and pieces from Comet Swift-Tuttle slam into the Earth’s upper atmosphere at some 210,000 kilometers (130,000 miles) per hour, lighting up the nighttime with fast-moving Perseid meteors. If our planet happens to pass through an unusually dense clump of meteoroids – comet rubble – we’ll see an elevated number of meteors. We can always hope!”http://earthsky.org/tonight
We  have always had and continue to have a very special relationship with the celestial wonders above our heads. In ancient times of course a lot les was known and therefore a lot less was taken for granted. Many ancient Egyptians prayed to the Sun God Ra that the sun would rise every morning. For there was no guarantee! So it is no surprise that a meteor shower would have been seen as a very spiritual experience of great significance.
To many people a meteorite would have seemed an amazing occurrence. A star, from the heavens, coming down towards the earth.  What a sight!  The falling star represented a bridge between man and the divine. Often cultures venerated meteor rocks as powerful magickal talisman, these were said to be sent from the sky gods to the people on earth. The ancient Greeks believed that finding one would bring you a year’s worth of good luck and a wish. It is from the Anciient Greeks that we have inherited the idea of wishing upon a star. Often temples in the ancient Mediterranean that were in possession of meteorites, held them as sacred objects.

Native American medicine men also thought meteorites had special powers and have been known to wear them as protective amulets, passing them down through generation after generation of shaman as symbols of their power.

In Roman times it was thought that the stars were candles lit by the angels with each representing a soul on earth.
In the Teutonic mythology of central Europe, it was believed that every person was represented by a star. This star was attached to the ceiling of the sky by the threads of fate. In Romania, there is a belief that the stars are candles lit by the gods  in honour of each person’s birth and that the brighter the star the greater the person. The falling star represents the soul’s final journey to the afterlife as it is being blown out and across the sky by the divine candle keepers.

In these and other cultures, falling stars and meteor showers were celebrated, they honoured the ancestors who had come before them, and in particular the newly deceased who were joining the ranks of the highly venerated generations who had come before.

So try and spend some time outside in the wonder and the magic of the Perseid meteor shower this August. Perhaps you would like to think about your ancestors as you gaze up into the universe. Or perhaps you would just like to enjoy the incredible experience and wonder at this world that we are so lucky to be a part of. However you spend it know that somehow we are all connected and are all part of this incredible universe, all sharing this same feeling of wonder and amazement that this world continues to give us.

On the nature of change. Marcus Aurelius Quote

Waning Moon Epsom Salts bath for stress relief and migraines

Waning Moon Epsom Salts bath for stress relief and migraines

Ingredients needed:
1 cup Sea Salt
2 cups Epsom salts
4-6  drops essential oil of your choice (lavender or geranium are good relaxing and balancing oils)

You can make this up before hand and keep in a nice jar, a jam jar or a zip lock bag. Use

Epsom salts are a compound of magnesium and sulfate. Studies have shown that the magnesium is very readily absorbed through the skin. Magnesium is essential for the body and is important for reducing inflammation, helping muscle and nerve function and helping to prevent artery hardening. Sulfates in their turn help improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins and help ease migraine headaches.

The magnesium in Epsom salts helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of calm and relaxation. A bath with Epsom salts is therefore a fabulous way to relax and let go of any stress.

A bath in Epsom salts is wonderful at the waning moon as you let go of any stress and toxins in your body and replace them with the goodness that is in the Epsom salts compound. As the moon wanes this is an ideal time to let go of anything that you no longer need in your life. This makes space for anything that you do need. By letting go of stress and toxins you will create space for healing and nutrients to be absorbed. Your body will be in better shape to be ready in absorption mode when the moon starts to get bigger(waxing).

The essential oil lavender is really versatile for therapeutic purposes. Lavender has a calming effect on the body and can be used to reduce anxiety, stress and help with a good night’s sleep. This essential oil is therefore ideal to use in your Epsom salts bath as a relaxing aid, perfect if your bath is just before bed time.

As you run your bath light some candles to get you in the mood for your wonderful stress reducing experience. Four candles, one at each corner of the bath will mean you are totally surrounded in a soft cocoon of light. Choosing candles to represent the four elements present in mother nature: water, air, earth and fire is a perfect way to feel grounded during you bath. Alternatively an aromatherapy candle of your choice will further enhance the healing properties of your bath. You could for example choose a lavender candle along with your lavender oil or if you have geranium in your bath, a lavender candle would be a good complement. Aromatherapy oils and candles may be purchased from the Astarte-moon shop here:Astarte-Moon

Lie in your bath now, relax and feel the warm, salted water  filtering through your pores deep into your body, finding it’s way to where it is needed most. Feel any pain, discomfort or sickness that you have leave your body into the bath water, draining slowly from your body. You might like to visualize that pain as black cords being pulled out of your body. Lie there until all that pain has been pulled out of the water. When you are sure that it is all in the bath water, pull the plug and watch all your unnecessary pain leaving you and being flushed down the drain. Stay in the bath until it has all gone.

Finish with a quick splash of cool/cold water to re-vitalise you and get rid of the last of any sickness. As cold as you can is good as this will really get your circulation going.

Step out of your bath feeling re-vitalised and stress free. Your body will have really benefited from this waning moon Epsom salts experience, try and repeat it again during this time and every time that the moon is waning.

Moon blessings to you, Alison

How to make energizing sun water and bring abundance into your life.

You can make sun water in a similar way to making moon water. See my post on moon water for further information : moon water. Leave still or mineral water in a glass or ceramic bowl (yellow would be great to echo the beauty of the sun) covered with film or mesh from dawn until noon as this is when the sun is rising and will give your water the most energy. You may like to say a simple prayer as you put out your water. For example you could say

‘Mighty sun, beam your powerful rays down onto this water of mine. Fill this water with your strength and energy that we may benefit from your amazing power. Blessed Be’

If the day is more cloudy then you should leave your water for up to eight hours. If you don’t have a garden you can leave your container on a window sill, preferably east facing:the direction that the sun rises. You can make sun water at any time along the wheel of the year however the summer months are a more powerful time to make this water because of the increased strength of the sun. Litha or the summer solstice and Mabon are therefore ideal Sabbats on which to make your sun water.

You can add citrine if you wish to additionally charge the water. Citrine is a stone of abundance, it is used to attract happiness, wealth and laughter into your life. Citrine strengthens personal power and acts to combat any negative energy that is around you, either from people that you come across or excess electrical energy for example from televisions. Further information on Citrine and other crystals can be found on the Astarte-Moon website here: http://www.astarte-moon.co.uk. Tigers Eye would be another good crystal that you can use in your sun water. Tiger’s Eye is a very good grounding and balancing stone.  It is helpful for resolving inner conflict and blocked creativity, Tigers Eye energises you and lifts your mood.

Keep the water in a glass bottle once you have made it to maintain it’s purity. Plastic bottles slowly leak chemicals into the water so they are not a good idea.

There are many ways in which you can you can use this sun water. You will find that it has a different energy to moon water if you have made this before.  Your sun water will be charged with a happy, fun-loving energy. You can use the water as an energiser in baths. Adding sun water to your drinks will give you more energy throughout your day.  A wonderful way to start your day is with a yoga Salute to the Sun exercise accompanied by a glass of your sun water with a slice of lemon. Imagine the power of the sun as you are doing your salute to the sun and feel the sun’s rays filling you up as you drink the water, this will keep your energy levels topped up throughout you day.  The yoga sun salutation is an excellent way of awakening and balancing all your chakras. The name sun salutation translates to Surya Namaskar in Sanskrit which means praising of the sun. On a physical level the sun salutation improves, circulation, flexibility and stamina. It also increases blood flow to your heart. Diagram www.stylecraze.com

In addition I keep any small glass bottles that come my way then I can give my friends and family either the sun or moon water that I have made that month.  Cleansing your crystals with sun water will re vitalize and energize them

You can use your sun water to splash on the centre of your hairline to open your Crown chakra and clear your aura when you feel tired or doubt yourself. The crown chakra is often associated with the sun, the more activated the crown chakra is the more energy you will feel that you have. The energy will often appear as a golden halo of light, often termed a sun-circle. Strengthening the crown chakra in this way acts as a powerful detoxifier. It removes negativity and deep emotional blocks and gives you emotional strength and courage. Imagine that you are wearing a lovely golden crown full of sunlight and the sun’s amazing power.

Enjoy the energy that this sun water will bring to you and your friends and family.
Sunny blessings to you, Alison
