New Moon Affirmation. On accepting the challenges ahead of us in life and practicing Gratitude

We have a new moon today and with it comes an apology from me for not posting in ages. Too much going on I won't bore you with but hopefully life will get on bit more of an even keel now.

So we have a new moon and with it always the hope of new beginnings, fresh eyes on the world, new ways of thinking, amazing opportunities and challenges to be faced. It is an exciting time in the lunar month I always find, as well as sometimes for some an unsettling on, coupled with the time of the full moon I often think this is the most turbulent time, it is how we use this time to our advantage that is the key here really. I have to admit I often do struggle at these times as I do suffer from migraines at the time of the new moon and full moon but try to push through. This is a time of challenge, we all have our challenges to face, the key is how we deal with these. Practicing mindfulness and gratitude are great ways of doing this. Concentrating on the here and now and being grateful for what you have right now, the little things, is a great way to take your mind away from the worry of any larger issues that may be causing you pain.

What plans do you have for this new moon, do you have any projects you would like to get started on? I plan to book my craft fairs and festivals for the summer over the next few days so that is something to look forward to.

New moon blessings to you,

Alison

Super New Moons in January February and March. Can you feel the increase in energy?

How has this moon phase been for you? I've taken full advantage of the New Moon this January and gone full on into creating my new website, it is something I have been meaning to do for a long time and have been putting off. As many of you know I suffer from migraines and this puts me off starting big jobs like this knowing that it may be hard to finish them but I decided that I just had to go for it. Our waxing moon has really been in my favour these past few days and I have been able to work really well and have got so much done. I'm very chuffed with myself!! I am also feeling a great deal of gratitude for the wonders of the universe that we inhabit and it's ever changing nature.

Even my daughter who is not particularly into this sort of thing commented that the moon must be giving her energy as she was feeling it too! She is busy with a heavy work load from school at the moment and so it really helped that the waxing moon was giving her the energy to get through it.

It was a super new moon this January so that may have something to do with it. This means that our new moon was closer to the earth than she normally is. A super moon has to be within 361,836 kilometres or 224,834 miles to be defined as a Supermoon.  At the time of the super moon the effects that we normally feel at the new moon will be accentuated. This super new moon also brings wider ranging tides than normal. The tide rises higher, which is called a Perigean spring tide and also plunges much lower.

More information can be found on super moons here: What is a Supermoon?

Our February new moon will also be a super new moon as will be the new moon in March of this year. February's new moon occurring on the 18th will be the most 'super' of the three as it is closest to the lunar perigree. Perigree means near our earth. The new moon on February 18th 2015 occurs at 23.47 UTC and the lunar perigree occurs eight hours later. Our moon in March will arrive on the 20th, approximately fourteen hours after pedigree.

We will therefore be in for a real treat in February. I'm looking forward to making even more progress on my blog and website then!

If you would like to take a peek at my website it is http://www.astarte-moon.co.uk or you can click on the shop button at the top of the page here. I would love to know what you think, any improvements I could make etc. I'm still learning my way around the new programme. Steep learning curve but I'm getting there!!

Practising mindfulness during the Leonids meteor shower

Tonight I will be practising mindfulness watching the Leonids meteor shower in my back garden under a warm blanket!

The Leonids meteors can be seen at their peak around the 16th to the 18th November. They are one of the most impressive showers to observe, with around 40 meteors per hour at their peak.  This year only a modest 10-15 have been predicted however. The shower itself has a cyclical peak year every 33 years where hundreds of meteors can be seen each year, the last of these was in 2001, lets look forward to 2034 then! Our crescent waning moon is at 25% of her brightness at the moment so that should make for fairly good viewing of this impressive meteor shower.

In order to locate the Leonids, look in the direction of the constellation Leo, the best time is just after midnight. The brightest object in the sky right now, the planet Jupiter is also near the radiant point which should make it easier to locate where the meteors will be originating.

earthsky.org
Here are some viewing tips from earthsky.org

“Here’s another tip regarding the radiant point. As darkness falls in mid-November, the radiant point of the shower is below your horizon, as seen from all parts of Earth. As the Earth turns, the constellation Leo the Lion – carrying the meteor shower radiant point – will rise over your eastern horizon. Expect to see the constellation Leo in the east around midnight. That’s why the Leonids begin to pick up steam after the midnight hour!
Just remember, you don’t have to locate a meteor shower radiant to watch the meteor shower.
But if the radiant isn’t in the sky, you won’t see as many meteors. That means you should watch the Leonid shower tonight, from late evening (November 17) until dawn (November 18).
As a general rule, the higher the meteor shower radiant climbs in your sky, the more meteors that you’re likely to see. The radiant for the Leonids is highest up during the dark hour before dawn, offering, perhaps, 10-15 meteors per hour. The moon may marginally interfere with the show, but not enough to worry about. You should see at least a sprinkling meteors, if you watch for an hour or so.

What else can you see on the night of the 2014 Leonids peak? The radiant for the Leonids is near the star Algieba in Leo. This is not Leo the Lion’s brightest star. That distinction goes to Leo’s star Regulus. Watch for both of these stars.
accuweather.com
Both Algieba and Regulus belong to a noticeable pattern on the sky’s dome, in the shape of a backwards question mark. This pattern is called “the Sickle.” The paths of Leonid meteors can be traced backwards to the Sickle pattern, which is a famous asterism – or noticeable star pattern – within the constellation Leo.”
Watching meteors fly through our night sky can be an intensely spiritual experience. The wonder of a shooting star is something that stirs a deep emotion within us. Spending an hour or two watching a shower is a wonderful way of really practicing a meditative mindfulness, try to really concentrate on the night sky and empty your mind of all other thoughts. Become completely absorbed in what is happening in the heavens above you and allow yourself to be almost transported to that other plane as if you yourself were in amongst the shooting stars. As you still your mind you will feel it is just you and the night sky and it is a wonderful feeling. Make sure you wrap up warm though and enjoy your wonderful mindful meteors!
Wishing on a shooting star! Blessings, Alison xxx

"You are emerging from the cocoon of your former self. Marianne Williamson Positive Inspirational Quote

"You are emerging from the cocoon of your former self. There are no limits to the extent of the transformation that's possible for you" Marianne Williamson

This is a wonderful and truly inspiring quote by the fabulous Marianne Williamson. She teaches us that it is always possible to change, change is within us and it is never too late to do so, we just need the courage to take those initial steps towards transformation, to shrug off the chains that may be holding us back and move forward towards our dreams. Whatever the terminology we use, the Lightening Process, NLP, mindfulness, all of these are designed to bring about the change from within but first we need to want to change. Are you ready for change, are you ready to take that first step?

Marianne Williamson is also author of the book

The Gift of Change: Spiritual Guidance for a Radically New Life [Paperback]

Marianne Williamson.
In this lovely book Marianne talks about change and how we should embrace it. Our lives should be flexible and we are encouraged to find our own path that is truly right for us.

"Marianne Williamson delves deeply into the rule of change and transition in our lives in this inspirational book, reflecting on the paradoxes that inevitably pervade our experience as she helps us find our way. Williamson examines the paradox of what we gather on the path of life, as our most difficult times sometimes bring about the most wisdom. She then investigates our inherent resistance to change and our recklessness around it. Finally, she focuses at length on the paradox of existence – being firmly rooted yet flexible in our lives.
Providing seven practical principles to support us through the transitions and changes we experience in life, Williamson ensures that whatever change you are facing – whether it's a relationship ending, the loss of a loved one or embarking on a new career path – you can learn to stop resisting the change itself and move into the future gracefully. The Gift of Change also examines the roles of openness and letting go, grieving and forgiveness, and love and fear. Marianne Williamson delivers hope and healing as she brings us to a place where we can truly live in the freedom of love." Amazon.co.uk

So let your light shine, you are brilliant and amazing and others around you will appreciate that light and allow their own light to shine.

"One of the most spiritual things you can do is embrace your humanity. Connect with those around you today. Gratitude quote Steve Maraboli

"One of the most spiritual things you can do is embrace your humanity. Connect with those around you today.  Say 'I love you', 'I'm Sorry', 'I appreciate you', 'I'm proud of you' whatever you are feeling. Send random texts, write a cute note, embrace your truth and share it..cause a smile today for someone else and give plenty of hugs"

Another wonderful quote from the amazing Steve Maraboli. I love his words he speaks such simple truths that we all know in our hearts yet sometimes forget to follow. This is an easy one to do, such a simple thing to tell someone you love them, send a text, write a note, leave a post it on the fridge or a note in a lunch box. Practice random kindness! It is simple and easy to do yet you will make that person's day. And hugging, you cannot underestimate the power of a hug. It has been scientifically been proven to increase seretonin and decrease the signs of ageing apparently so hug as many times as you can throughout the day! Connecting with others in this way will remind you of your own gratitude for their presence in your life, reminding you of the way their lives enrich your life. We are all part of this wonderful web of life and can embrace it with all our hearts.

Nothing ever happened in the past that can prevent you from being present now. Positive Mindfulness quote. Eckhart Tolle

Nothing every happened in the past that can prevent you from being present now; and if the past cannot prevent you from being present now, what power does it have? Eckhart Tolle

This is a quote from Eckhart Tolle's brilliant book A New Earth: Create a Better Life
"Responding to a radical crisis that threatens our very survival – this is humanity’s challenge now.
...humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die.
What is arising now is not a new belief system, a new religion, spiritual ideology, or mythology. We are coming to the end not only of mythologies but also of ideologies and belief systems. The change goes deeper than the content of your mind, deeper than your thoughts."

The past is over and done with and can never be changed. Louise Hay quote on Gratitude and Mindfulness

The past is over and done with and can never be changed. This is the only moment that we can experience. Louise Hay.

This pic was taken one frosty morning last winter. It reminded me of the need to cherish each day as it comes. Each day is special and we have to experience every day with the wonder that it brings. We all have have had bad things that have happened in the past that we would wish never happened but it is important to not let those things overtake what is happening today. Approach each day with courage and mindfulness, experience it to the full and find something to be grateful for however small that might be.

Below are some wonderful Louise Hay publications, just click on the picture to find out more.

Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. Eckhart Tolle

Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at this moment. Eckhart Tolle

All experiences, both good and bad can lead to spiritual growth. Whatever you are experiencing will help you along the path even if the reason is not clear at the time. Embrace life with all its up and downs and trust that each experience is helping your soul to evolve. Experience everything in the moment, feel the emotions as they happen, practice mindfulness and trust you are on the right path

Give yourself a gift of five minutes of contemplation in awe of everything you see around you. Wayne Dyer positive inspirational quote

"Give yourself a gift of five minutes of contemplation in awe of everything you see around you.  Go outside and turn your attention to the many miracles around you.  This five minute a day regimen of appreciation and gratitude will help you to focus your life in awe.  Remind yourself that you are just as much a miracle as the lark and the snail."  Wayne Dyer.

We are lucky on this world of ours to be surrounded by miracles. The sun rising in the morning, soft warm rain on your face, frosty blades of grass, these are all wonders that we can experience and savour. You are a miracle too, never forget that.

Wayne Dyer has some wonderful words to say on the subjects of gratitude, abundance and mindfulness.

Below is a collection of my favourite Wayne Dyer books, just click on the pictures to find out more about each book.

Your life situation is mind-stuff. your life is real. Eckhart Tole mindfulness quote

Forget about your life situation and pay attention to your life.  your life situation exists in time.  Your life is now.  Your life situation is mind-stuff. your life is real. Eckhart Tole

Often we spend a lot of time worrying about events in the past or where we want to be in the future. It is good to look to future goals but not at the expense of being in the now. If we practice mindfulness we learn to enjoy the hear and now and find pleasure on a day to day basis. Your life is real and it is now, this day will not be lived again so make the most of it.

Imagine you are sending light out all around you. Thich Nhat Hanh. Positive Inspirational Quote

" Imagine you are sending light out all around you. All your words, thoughts and actions are going in many directions. If you say something kind, your kind words go in many directions and you yourself go with them. We are transforming and continuing in a
different form at every moment" Thich Nhat Hanh

I love these words from the wonderful Thich Nhat Hanh. The words we speak are important and we should choose them carefully. If we speak kind words to people those kind words will spread like a ripple on a lake throughout the universe in many directions. So speak kind words whenever you can. Shine your light, let everyone see it.

Thich Nhat Hanh has written many wonderful books one of which is
Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life

"Lucidly and beautifully written, PEACE IS EVERY STEP contains commentaries and meditations, personal anecdotes and stories from Nhat Hanh's experiences as a peace activist, teacher, and community leader. It begins where the reader already is - in the kitchen, office, driving a car, walking in a park - and shows how deep meditative presence is available now. Nhat Hanh provides exercises to increase our awareness of our own body and mind through conscious breathing, which can bring immediate joy and peace. Nhat Hanh also shows how to be aware of relationships with others and of the world around us, its beauty and also its pollution and injustices. The deceptively simple practices of PEACE IN EVERY STEP encourage the reader to work for peace in the world as he or she continues to work on sustaining inner peace by turning the 'mindness' into the mindful.

'This is a very worthwhile book. It can change individual lives and the life of our society. ' H. H. the Dalai Lama."

Enjoy shining your light, bright blessings to you, Alison

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take" Maya Angelou Positive Inspirational Quote

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away" Maya Angelou "Positive Inspirational Quote

What are the moments that have taken your breath away?

They don't have to be big moments. Rainbows, seeing my children laugh, the rain, the full moon, my children's tiny toes, the first snowflakes of winter. Those are a few of mine.

Remembering these moments reminds us to always practice gratitude for the things we have in life, small or big that that take our breath away.

Blessings to you, Alison xxx

I am enough and I know in my deepest heart you are enough too. Molly Mahar Gratitude Quote

"I am a lover of ripe mangoes, stars in the midnight sky, stories around the campfire, the smell of rich coffee, laughing until I can’t breathe, having someone reach for my hand.   I am a lover, a sister, a storyteller, a daughter, a mentor, and a student. I am enough. And I know in my deepest heart– You are enough too. - "

Some more wonderful words of wisdom I thought that I would quote from the fabulous Molly Mahar. Reading her words always gives me a bit of a lift when I am feeling a bit down. Her words are very wise and make such perfect sense. She teaches use to be thankful for the little things like the smell of coffee and the magic of laughter, it is so important to remember how important these little things are and to try and practise gratitude. I'm still trying to keep up my resolve to practise my gratitude by thinking of three things to be grateful for before I fall asleep, how about you, anybody else finding this is working for you?

The other thing that cheers me up when I'm feeling down is Molly's 'Pollyanna' attitude. She talks about it herself as one of the strategies to make your life better and it really does. It's that whole glass half full/optimism approach to life but it really does work if you set your mind to it. If you tell yourself you are going to have a good day and really believe it and live it, then you will have a better day. It's not always the easiest thing in the world to do at all but it's really worth working at. Act like you are having a good time and you often will have a better time. It doesn't happen overnight and needs working at but it can be done in little baby steps. This is what Molly Mahar has to say on the subject "Optimism can be used in how you talk to yourself in the face of adversity, explain past events & think about the future.  In the quest for the good life, positive expectations can be self-fulfilling.  Cultivating your ability to be optimistic is beneficial to your health & your success." molly mahar

I certainly find that the easiest thing to start off with is how you talk about yourself. You inner self is always listening so the least you can do is at least talk about yourself in a positive light. For example I was always telling people I couldn't do mental arithmetic until I realised I was fulfilling my own prophecy so I stopped doing it. I didn't become a brilliant mathematician overnight but I'm better than I used to be!

Practice gratitude and optimism whenever you can, enjoy the smell of coffee and a good laugh with friends and family. Love others and love yourself for you are wonderful and you are enough, blessings, Alison xxx

Inner awareness of simple abundance. Sarah Ban Breathnach

Whatever we are waiting for - peace of mind, contentment, grace, the inner awareness of simple abundance - it will surely come to us, but only when we are ready to receive it with an open and grateful heart.

I do my pictures in batches and I usually move into folders the ones that I have already used. I rely on my memory  however to remember the quotes I've already used. Oh dear that system will have to change. Just searched through my blog and this is the second time of using this quote! I must really like the quote! Well I thought about should I put it up here and I thought, Yes I should. It really is a fabulous quote. It is simple and to the point, it explains the point of practising simple abundance in our daily lives with an open and grateful heart. So, I thought, I will post it again, different picture, same beautiful message: I hope that you enjoy it. Meanwhile I need to find myself a more organised system. Mmm. Tricky. I will have to offer that one up to the universe I think to find me an answer!!

Peaceful contented and abundant blessings to you, Alison

The music of your life is inside you. Nido Qubein positive inspirational quote.

“Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances may be, whatever misfortune you may have suffered, the music of your life has not gone. It’s inside you–if you listen to it, you can play it.” — Nido Qubein

Search for the place inside yourself where anything is possible. The music has not gone, you just need to stay silent for a little while and listen, it is there if you listen hard, it is always there even though on some days it seems hard to access. This is a really uplifting quote that I find is a good one to try and remember on those darker days. The music is there and it is good to remind yourself of that on the days of stress or darkness. Stay tuned in to the music of your soul.

This and other quotes can be found in the book 101 Motivational Quotes: With reflective questions to each quotation "Start your day off right foot, be inspired to make your day better than the day before. This delightful book features 101 powerful, thought-provoking quotes with additional reflective questions posed by the author. There are 24 life subjects ranging from Belief, Money and Responsibilty, to Perception, Positive Thinking and Success. The additional questions and thoughts will encourage you to begin your day with a positive focus, renewed enthusiasm and a happy heart. This book is to be used as your inspiring companion on your journey through life."Amazon

Learn to see with your heart, not only your eyes. Brian Weiss quote on intuition and inner peace

We all want happier less stress filled lives don't we?

"Learn to see with your heart, not only your eyes. The more you listen to your inner voice, the more clearly it speaks. Intuition can be your best guide. "Brian Weiss

I love this quote, we so often go so quickly about our lives as we are so busy we make decisions and carry out actions based on what our head thinks we should be doing rather than listening to our intuition. Sometimes we need to quiet our minds and listen to our hearts, our soul knows the way, our intuition will show us the path, we just need to listen and trust in our own judgement.

Not listening with our heart often causes our lives to be full of stress as we go about from one task to another, not really thinking because we don't have the time to do so. If we slow down just a little and take a bit more time and use mindfulness in the tasks that we carry out day to day, we may find our lives become easier, less stress filled and happier. If we listen to our heart on a day to day basis we will gradually become calmer and more peaceful overall and life just then falls into place a lot easier. Inner peace comes from listening to your soul.

This is what Brian Weiss has to say on the subject of stress:

"Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace is an important step on the healing journey. Stress kills, there’s no doubt. Stress eats away at our happiness and joy, as well as our stomach lining. Stress raises blood pressure and directly harms our cardiovascular system. Stress depresses our immune system and allows chronic illnesses to overwhelm us, causing pain, disability, and even death. Basically, stress robs us of happiness and joy.
Stress is a mental state that can cause severe negative emotional and physical consequences. It can be entirely eliminated, or at least greatly lessened, by adjusting our understanding and attitudes, and by learning simple yet pervasive mental and bodily relaxation."
Source: Brian Weiss
Brian Weiss' book :
Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace This a superb book for anyone wishing to further improve the stress levels in their lives.

"This book and its accompanying stress-reduction CD will help you deeply relax. It will enable you to release the acute and chronic stress we constantly carry in our bodies and our minds. It can help you remove the blocks and obstacles to your inner peace and joy, and prevent and heal stress-related illness and disease.
To heal yourself in this manner is a profoundly loving act. It is an act of self-love, because you are taking the time and expending the energy to heal yourself physically and emotionally, and to bring more happiness into your life. Regular practice with the CD will produce deep, long-lasting results."

"Gratitude is the open door to abundance" Yogi Bhajan quote

"Gratitude is the open door to abundance" Yogi Bhajan.

Practising Gratitude on a daily basis is keeping your door open to a happier and more fulfilled life. Including Gratitude from day to day will bring abundance into your life if you let it, positivity attracts positivity.

Yogi Bhajan brought Kundalini Yoga to the West in 1968. A great many of the people who have been impacted by Yogi Bhajan’s wisdom, knowledge, and teachings are sharing the technology of peace, strength, and awareness to the whole planet. His knowledge and his teachings are reaching out through Kundalini Yoga Teachers, through businesses, and through Sikh Dharma.

These are some words from one of the many talks Yogi Bhajan has given throughout his lifetime:

"If you can control your feelings and your own emotions by your mind under the guidance of your intelligence, you have walked on the path of reality. "

"Some of you want to be rich, some want to be poor, some want to be free, some want to enjoy life as you want to—there are a lot of inspirations in you. This will all come to you in proportion—as much as you put in, that much you may have. But the whole Universe will come to you, when you'll become one, or learn the procedure to become one, with anybody or everybody, anywhere or anytime. And there's one principle to it: we all have one thing common—we all have different minds, we all have different bodies, but we have one soul—we’re a part of one soul. If we can see the soul in each other and relate to it, find it, understand it, respect it, then that oneness will be forever."

"At night when you are dead tired and you do not know what to do and you have put your head on the pillow and you are gone, if you have not thanked for that day, you have lost the opportunity to enjoy the night. Each state of mind we enter, we enter with gratitude"

Kundalini yoga I must admit is not something I know a huge amount about but want to find out more. How about any of you?

I found this information regarding Kundalini and the Chakras that I thought was really interesting. I do regularly try and balance my chakras through meditation and this is taking it to another level with yoga poses so you can really work on the chakras that are out of line.
